On Monday, June 6th, I went outside at 5:30am to unlock the gate for the landscapers and I saw the smallest kitty on our block wall. I wasn't thinking quite clearly yet and my first instinct was to get it - because with the 115+ temps outside, I knew the kitty didn't really stand a chance. Well, she jumped down on the other side of the block wall and I couldn't find her. I debated on whether or not to tell the girls because I didn't want them getting excited - but I couldn't hold it in, and I told them. We said little prayers that the kitty would be ok and would find water or come back to our house. I thought about her all day because of the extreme heat we've been having and she looked like she needed water badly. Well, later that night, we put water on the wall and went for a walk to the mailbox to see if we could see the kitty. We got stuck talking to the neighbors down the street and in the meantime, saw our other neighbor walking outside with a cat carrier. Long story short - it was the cat! The kitty got in her yard earlier that day and was attacked by her dogs. Longer story short - we brought her in. She has been so so sweet so far (I know she's a tiny baby and still has a chance to be wild) - but I feel like maybe she picked us for a reason. She purrs as soon as you pick her up and LOVES the girls. She seems so thankful to have a place to be safe. The first night she was mean... growling, hissing and everything else. We didn't even take her out of her cage - but I think she was so afraid of everything after living in the desert for so long. Our neighbor across the street estimated her to be about 4 weeks old and it's a girl. The girls have named her "Lilly" - but we need Daddy to meet her when he gets home from CA. |
